THE GREATER DANBURY BAR ASSOCIATION
1. High School Teachers at the Courthouse. November 7, 2023
Danbury’s Chief Clerk reached out for assistance in connection with a field trip for teachers who are looking to increase their hands-on civics knowledge in order to bring that experience to the high-school curriculum. This is a great opportunity for the GDBA to help educate interested high school teachers. Volunteers are needed to lead the tour and to take part in the panel discussion.
The Schedule is:
8:30 – 9:00 – Courthouse Tour
9:00 – 9:45 – Roundtable discussion with judges, prosecutors, and local attorneys;
10:00 – 12:00 – Teachers can observe court business from the public gallery/.
The GDBA’s John Bowser worked with the Chief Clerk to schedule this wonderful event.
The GDBA’s Candace Milligan- Fay is coordinating volunteers. If you can assist, please contact Candace: firstname.lastname@example.org
2. Mock Trial Judges – December 7, 2023
Steve Sedensky (Special Assistant State’s Attorney and a member of GDBA) and Civics First are looking for volunteers for this year’s high school regional mock trial competition to be held at the Danbury courthouse.
The winner(s) of the regional Danbury Courthouse competition are honored and given a plaque for their school at the May Law Day ceremony in the courthouse.
The state program is run by Civics First, whose program link is: https://www.civicsfirstct.org/high_school_mock_trial
There are morning and afternoon sessions. We are looking for volunteer judges to do one or the other or both if they really love it. The volunteer will be paired with another attorney or judge on the bench to judge and/or score.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Steve directly at Stephen.Sedensky@ct.gov.
3. Lawyers at Libraries – Danbury Location
We have three attorneys signed up as of this email, but are looking for a few more so we can have a rotation every other month. Please feel free to contact Natalia Bellettiere at email@example.com or Kyle LaBuff at firstname.lastname@example.org. The link to the program is below. Thank you for your time and consideration.
